It was relatively chill for me this weekend. Watched some EPL soccer and trimmed a tree (not like christmas, more like stop growing into my house). Went to see Hidden Figures, another on my Best Movies of 2016 checklist. The happiest ending of anything I've seen lately. Great story, great characters, and another reality check on the small amount of progress we've made as a country in regards to gender and race. This true story of three remarkable women should be mandatory viewing for everyone building a STEM program for girls. And why we haven't heard about it before now is proof of the male bias that exists in our society. Sure it's a Hollywood version, but these people exist and their story is inspiring.
Monday was my families annual Day of Service working with Bridges Outreach. Bridges is an organization that helps the homeless population in Lower Manhattan and Newark and Irvington NJ. My wife heads up the sandwich-making, which consists of getting eighth grade students to build a "Brown bag lunch" that goes to a shelter in Newark. They made over 250 lunches on site, to add to the 700 community wide total created that day. My son was sorting clothes and blankets, while I bounced between all of the activities. A good day doing good.
